IoT Home Surveillance

ioE Watchdog

The brief

ioE Watchdog is a home security service concept designed for single households. ioE Watchdog offers a hardware solution comprising sensor modules and a speaker, along with a subscription-based service.

Background

In 2014, the number of single households in S.Korea was rapidly increasing, accounting for 30% of the total population. Unfortunately, during working hours, many homes become vulnerable targets for burglary.

Detering Burglars with Barking Dog Sounds

Research shows that having a dog in your house can serve as a deterrent to burglars. Even the perception of a dog being present can act as a deterrent, as the dog's presence increases the chances of being caught or creating noise that could draw attention.

HOW MIGHT WE

Communicating Speakers
to mimic orchestration
of dogs

How might we make communicating speakers to mimic a pack of dogs? When multiple speakers are connected to the system, each speaker is assigned a unique ioE Watchdog ID and emits barks mimicking different breeds in the pack. This makes it difficult to distinguish whether the barking is coming from real dogs or the system itself. No same breed in the pack!

A unique ID for each speaker

HOW IT WORKS

Dual Barking Modes Based on Escalation Levels

When ioE Watchdog senses someone at the door, it promptly sends an authentication message to the user, which can be conveniently processed using Touch ID. This feature helps prevent unnecessary barking noises while ensuring maximum security for your home.

Growling mode

When ioE Watchdog detects a subtle vibration at the door, it promptly sends an authentication message to verify the owner's presence. If the authentication fails and the shock on the door continues, ioE Watchdog switches into full blast mode.

Full-blast mode

As the intensity of the situation escalates, all ioE dogs connected to the system join in unison, engaging in a synchronized group barking until the threat of intrusion dissipates.
